Extrasensory Perception

For a long time extrasensory perception, or "ESP," was used as a term for all sorts of psychic abilities through mind control. Nowdays, it means the ability to receive information through the mind without using any of our five physical senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. People have talked about the subject of ESP for centuries, and many tests have been done to find out wether people can actually get information in this way.

Precognition & Deja Vu

The term "precognition" is used when a person knows something before it happens. It's a psychic message, or "gut feeling," and it can relate to the person, someone close to them, or even the planet. Have you ever had a conversation, or been in a situation or place that's felt strangely familiar? This is known as deja vu, which is French for "seen before." Some people think that deja vu is a memory from a past life.

Intuition

Your intuition is your sixth sense, or the instinctive feeling that sometimes gives off mental alarm bells, and helps you to make decisions. If someone you're close to is in danger or sick, it's sometimes possible to sense things using your intuition. You might have a strong feeling that you need to contact that person for no obvious reason, or just decide to go around and see him or her without really knowing why.

There are times for all of us when we're in the company of someone whom we don't feel at all comfortable with. There might be no apparent reason explanation for this, but it could be your intuition warning you to keep away. It's a very useful tool in life, and it's well worth taking notice of.

Psychometry

The ability to read experiences, facts, feelings, and thoughts about someone from an object is known as psychometry. Thoughts are energy, so they have the power to make things happen. Our own energy can be stored in the objects around us - - think of it as the object taking on some of our own vibrations. An old teddy bear, or a favorite piece of jewelry, for example, may have been with you through many different situations, both happy and sad. Some people believe that objects like these can actually record your experiences in life.

Levitation

Levitators claim they are able to focus the mind and use its power to lift their body from the ground. The practice of levitation is often mentioned in Hindu writings, and it's a great achievement of mind over matter. There was a time when Roman Catholic monks and priests were famous for levitating, but it wasn't always when they wanted to! St. Joseph of Copertino, a Franciscan monk, was constantly levitating. Once, he took off in the middle of a church service and his sandals landed on the heads of the congregation!

Some people can levitate other people's bodies. They say they do this by combining their mind power with that person in order to raise the individual's body off the ground.

Telepathy

The practice of telepathy is being is being able to use the subconscious part of our mind to read someone's thoughts or to communicate to a person without even speaking.

All of us are capable of telepathy and you may well have done it without even trying -- for example, if you've ever been in someone's company and found that both of you said the same thing at the same time. You can send pictures as well as words to another person's mind. You need to be able to clear your mind and focus on whatever you're trying to send. It helps if the other person's expecting a message from you so that they can open their mind to your thoughts.

Psychokinesis

Using the power of the human mind to move or change a physical object is known as psychokinesis. It includes the ability to bend spoons, stop or start watches, and move objects around, simply by using the mind. Psychokinesis is a skill that gets better with practice. Some people think that when someone is using this skill, the magnetic field around him or her changes, and this is part of the energy that affects the objects he or she is focusing on.

One of the most well-known people to practice psychokinesis is Uri Geller, who is famous for stopping clocks and bending cutlery. He says the most important thing about psychokinesis is believing that you can do it. Children are great at doing this because they haven't become disbelievers like some adults.

Developing Psychic Abilities

While most well-known psychics were born with their special gift, it is possible for anyone to develop this talent. Tapping into the intuitive part of one's psyche requires an open mind, a sense of humor, and the willingness to devote the time necessary to nuture this art. You must first release any limitations or restrictions you've placed upon yourself and realize that you are just as cabable as anyone else of achieving a higher state of awareness. You also need to learn not to take yourself so seriously. Being too serious creates tension and blocks your natural playfulness. So remember to enjoy the learning process and laugh as often as possible!

The time it takes to develop and hone your psychic abilities depends on how much time you're willing to devote for this practice. By no means should you allow the time you spend on your psychic development interfere with your career, family, freinds and loved ones! Set aside a time for yourself each day, even if it's only fifteen minutes, and focus only on your psychic growth.

There are various ways to tap into your psychic reservoir; including meditation, hypnosis, Reiki attunements, creative imagination, pendulums, tarot cards, training yourself to be acutely aware of your surroundings, and the list goes on. I would suggest that you avoid ouija boards, at least until you've MASTERED this art. Even some of the most advanced psychics won't go near a ouija board.

Meditation is the best way to focus and tap into your higher-self. For those of you who have never meditated, try staring into the flickering flame of a candle in a dim or dark room. Just relax and watch the gentle swaying of the flame. Get rid of all of your "busy thoughts" and take a few deep breathes -- put don't blow out the candle! After you've become relaxed and your mind has quieted down, bring up one question or issue and allow the information concerning it to flow into your awareness. You may not be successful right away but through continued practice you will begin to open up your psychic doorway.

For more advanced psychic training, try finding a psychic workshop or a teacher or instructor in your area. Be leary of those who over-charge! You also might want to find a book on this topic. I would suggest Basic Psychic Development by John Friedlander & Gloria Hemsher. There are also many great resources available online!
