What Is Scrying?

Scrying is an ancient art in which clairvoyance is achieved by concentrating upon an object with a shiney surface. The term scrying comes from the English word descry, which means "to make out faintly", or to reveal.

Scying in shiney surfaces has been practiced in every culture and time, not only by mystics and magicians, but by every girl who has gazed into a mirror and preformed rituals to see her lover's face, or by any man who has sought wisdom in moonlit water. Crystallomacy differs from other forms of scrying, such as tea leaves, because the images are not formed by the medium itself, but from within your psyche. People sometimes feel that they cannot use a crystal ball or mirror successfully because there are no concrete images on which to work. For this reason, scryers can become anxious and actually block the natural and very vivid images cast on to the glass by the mind's eye.

One of the most famous prophets was Nostradamus. He used many tools to aid his work but produced his most meticulous predictions by using bowls of water. Nostradamus would place a lit candle next to a bowl of water and stare at the water's surface. The visions of people and events that were revealed to him span all the way up to the 21st century.

Scrying as Related to Witchcraft

Some say that witches are more skilled at the art of scrying than others. I tend to disagree with this theory. The ability to obtain images, whether in an object or with one's mind, is a process that can be developed by anyone willing to put forth the time and effort this practice requires.

There are many individuals who obtain vibrations from clients who come to them for advice. This enables their subconscious to receive visions of objects, events, places and people from high level spiritual counsellors, also known as spirit guides. This method is silmilar to psychometry, that ultra-sensitive ability that allows the practitioner to "read" a personality from special items such as clothing, jewelry, or even correspondence sealed inside an envelope.

Although scying is simply defined as gazing into a reflective surface, this is only the beginning of the process. After a while the subconscious moves into a channelling state, thereby opening up the psyche, which is considered to be influenced by the phases of the moon.
